Janet & Andrew

Posted on June 22, 2010

More scorching summer weather yesterday for the pre-wedding shoot with Janet and Andrew.  We started off on top of Calton Hill (i didn’t know you couldn’t drive up there anymore) and then made our way to the parliament building.  Say what you want about the Scottish Parliament but the building does provide a host of great spots for a photo shoot.

Amy, Stephen, Freddy & Woody

Posted on June 21, 2010

Saturday was hot and sunny and brought Amy and Stephen’s pre-wedding shoot.  Where Amy and Stephen go, their adorable little boy Freddy and manic black labrador Woody follow.  It was a fun shoot with the happy couple choosing an interesting and unusual location.  They knew what they where doing as the derelict buildings and brightly coloured containers made fantastic backdrops and were a photographer’s dream.

Big Catch-up

Posted on June 19, 2010

It’s been too long since the last blog post I know.  Little Cairn is settling into life in the McBeth clan but it is very hard work with two wee ones under 18 months.

Anyway, its been super busy over the last few weeks.  We have done weddings,  pre-wedding shoots, first communions, family reunions, shot Camilla from Strictly Come Dancing and local artisan furniture maker Robin Runciman.  Below are a few highlights.

Firstly we have the Semple Clan gathering.  What a fun morning this was.

Then Kay and Sinc’s pre-wedding shoot in the grounds of Thirlestane Castle.

Then Matt and Karen’s lovely wedding at the Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh.  Here is Karen being preened and pampered on the morning of the big day.

Here is the stunning setting of Redwood Grove in the Gardens, just happens to be where Jess and I got married seven years ago, or is it eight?

And yes this is a cake, it was make by Karen’s dad.

As is inevitable at a Scottish wedding, the country dancing is enjoyed by all.

And lastly, this chap is local artisan Robin Runciman, maker of the most exquisite wooden furniture I have seen.

Busy times

Posted on April 27, 2010

There is no excuse for not keeping the website up to date but in my defence we have been very busy.  We are on a break from covering weddings until the end of May as our second baby is due around the 12th but have been flat out dealing with the fantastic response we received from exhibiting at Thee Wedding Show in Edinburgh.  We have also had several pre wedding shoots with our brides and grooms who are tying the knot this year. On top of all that, we have been in demand for family portraits including a great family who gathered the clan to celebrate the ruby wedding anniversary of their parents.  Later this week I have the pleasure of working again with an organisation close to my heart, The Breast Cancer Institute.

I really love the times I spend behind the camera, meeting such a variety of friendly and interesting people.  Thank you all for making my job special.

Snowy Borders

Posted on January 3, 2010

I managed to get out in the snow today with something other than a camera-phone.  What with Christmas and all, there just hasn’t been time.  Seems we have had snow here every day for about two weeks and the novelty is starting to wear off.  I had to clear more than a foot of the stuff off the roof of my car.

Anyway,  I took a spin up to a place nearby called Scott’s View.  It was apparently Sir Walter Scott’s favourite view of the Borders countryside and shows the splendid Eildon Hills.

Thanks & Happy New Year

Posted on December 31, 2009

2009 has been a busy year for McBeth Photography and we would like to thank all the people who have helped us grow.  Special thanks goes to all the lovely couples who chose us to capture their weddings.  It was most definitely my pleasure.

My favourite shot of 2009 isn’t from a wedding; it isn’t even a photograph I was paid to take.  It’s this one.

It’s a photograph of the moment my life changed forever, my little darling Esme at about 5 minutes old.   So special thanks must also go to my beautiful wife Jess for giving me a daughter and who without her hard work and amazing organisational skills McBeth Photography would not exist.

 Happy New Year everyone  xxx.

Last Shoot of 2009

Posted on December 31, 2009

Tuesday brought me the last photoshoot of the noughties.  It was the engagement shoot of Matteo and Sarah in the wonderful surroundings of Sarah’s family farm in the Borders.  It was a bitterly cold day but beautiful with ice and snow all around.   Matteo and Sarah are getting married in the summer and I am hoping the weather will be at least a bit warmer that day.

Some of our work has recently be used in a brand new Scottish fashion magazine.

The Coveted Mag  is an independent magazine celebrating the Scottish Fashion Industry, supporting and promoting existing and emerging talent.  One of our shots, captured for one of the rising stars of UK millinery,  Jacqueline Elizabeth has been used in an article about exciting new hat designers.  Direct link to the article is here.

You could also win a fantastic bespoke fascinator made by Jacqueline Elizabeth by entering the competition held by Scottish Television.

Sunday

Posted on October 20, 2009

Sunday was a busy day with a bridal meeting and a family lifestyle shoot all before lunchtime.  Happy to say both went well, Abeda, the lovely bride booked us for her wedding next year and I had a great time in the morning shooting the Baillies in the shadow of the Forth Bridge.

Luke and little brother Sam proved to be excellent models, even if they were more interested in treasure hunting.  Sam took a wee tumble and ended up with a bit of a bump on the head but nothing that a cuddle from dad and a spot of photoshopping by me couldn’t sort out.
