When I was a wee boy (more than 20 years ago) I didn’t believe that there was such places as Skye, Ayr and Eigg (egg). Since then I have visited Skye and I can confirm it is real. A couple of weeks ago I was at Ayr and it turns out that that’s a real place too. I can’t confirm Eigg’s existence yet though.
Anyway I was in Ayr for the wedding of Yvonne and Cameron. It took place at the (say this with low, slightly brooding scottish accent, like the old guy on Dads Army) Brig O’ Doon Hotel. Brig ‘O’ Doon means bridge over the Doon. There’s a river called the Doon and a bridge over it. You possibly guessed that though.
This bridge is the place (mentioned in Robert Burns’ best poem) where Tam O’ Shanter (there is a Tam over a shanter), was racing home, blazing drunk after seeing loads of dead folk dancing. They chased him and a sexy witch pulled his horses tail off. I’m lead to believe horses tails are stronger these days and less inclined to be severed when tugged by occultists.
Here’s some photos.
